SUZHOU, China, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Super League (CSL) wrapped up its first stage here on Monday with Guangzhou Evergrande leading the top eight teams into the second stage slated to kick off on October 16.
The former world No. 1 is to face a tougher challenge in the second round against 2017 champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, who knocked out American Madison Brengle 6-2, 6-1.
"We will work hard to overcome the unprecedented challenge the world is facing, and help athletes perform to their best in a new kind of Games."
Depending on the different rules, players and staff might have to submit themselves to a five-day quarantine period. The rules are valid for all travel. Hertha BSC's Krzysztof Piatek, for instance, missed the first round of the German Cup after playing in an international match with Poland.
In handing down his decision on Sunday, judge Luiz Philippe Vieira said the Rio-based lower court did not have the jurisdiction to suspend a match played in Sao Paulo.
In the Uruguayan capital Montevideo, Penarol kept alive their hopes of progressing to the next stage, with a 3-0 win over Chile's visiting Colo-Colo.
News of the transfer comes in the wake of Manchester City's 5-2 thrashing at home to Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon. The game is the first time a side coached by Pep Guardiola has conceded five goals at home and once again served to highlight the problems at the heart of his side's defense.
The 2020 China Sports Show was also affected. The annual sports business show had originally been scheduled in May, but had to be postponed to September. For the same reason, the number of international participants was much smaller than last year.
The game was over as a contest in the 45th minute after Pau Torres put the ball into his own net to make it 4-0 and the second half was an anti-climax, although it allowed Ousmane Dembele to return after injury and new signings Pedri, Miralem Pjanic and Francisco Trincao to make their Barca debuts.
"I will be competing for the first time since running under two hours at the INEOS 1:59 Challenge. I'm happy to race with the dominant athletes, that is how the sport is and should be treated like that. Competition makes the sport beautiful," he added.
That performance has put Athletic coach Gaizka Garitano under pressure and both he and Machin need wins to assure they are still in their jobs after the international break.
